Summary: 

This is a new position within the Investment Systems organization.  The Quality Assurance (QA) Director works at the direction of the Assistant Vice President (AVP), Investment Systems and oversees and directs the internal QA Team. The QA Director is responsible for ensuring the appropriate procedures, controls and reporting are in place and oversee the testing function and resources of both onshore and offshore staff. The QA Director will be the Investment Systems resident expert for MFC General Funds QA processes.

 

A strong candidate for this position would have led one or more QA teams, ideally been responsible for building a QA function for an organization.  Also, experience overseeing offshore resources is highly desired.   

 

Responsibilities and Accounabilities:

 

Direct and coordinate all activities within of the Investment Systems Quality Assurance Team to meet the overall Quality Assurance practices, reporting and servicing requirements.

 

Development of a centralized QA function which includes:

 


  • Development of common processes, consultation, coordination, prioritization and estimation of testing activities, liaising and oversight of offshore resources, and managing internal QA resources.

  •  Manage the testing off-shoring group both in the start up phase as well as coordinating of ongoing migration of testing activities to the offshore group.

  • Manage Off-shore vendor relationship to develop and maintain effective collaboration, timely and accurate delivery of contracted services, and address, resolve and escalate vendor issues as appropriate.

  • Develop effective relationships within and among IT teams and with other internal resources, providing resources, expertise and training on testing methodology.

  • Provide leadership and direction to the QA Team in their day to day responsibilities and ensure QA activities are executed and reviewed as appropriate.

  • Develop metrics and status reporting and prepare and deliver reports on a regular basis.

  • Manage resource allocation and staffing levels to ensure QA SMEs are available for administrative and application testing consultation and review activities.

  • Manage QA Team knowledge development and training to ensure expertise for key application testing and cross-training of team members.

  • Provide personnel management, providing regular informal performance feedback and formal performance reviews according to organizational policies.

  • Maintain awareness of industry standards, trends and best practices in order to strengthen organizational and technical knowledge.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Location: This position can be based out of the Toronto or Boston office. 

 

Travel:  Approximately 10% - 15% within North America and possibility of global site location visit.

 




Qualifications



Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

 


  • BA or BS degree

  • Minimum 6 years related QA work experience.

  • Experience in leading a QA function or team a must

  • General knowledge of Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Testing Methodologies, and testing and defect tracking tools is required.

  • Experience assessing risk for determining appropriate levels of testing.

  • Experience leading a centralized testing group comprised of onshore and offshore resources is a strong plus
