Reporting to the VP of Product Development, the Chief Enterprise Architect (CEA) will own the product technology strategy for WK Tax and Accounting U.S. Working closely with Product Management, Product Development, and the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO), across Software and Publishing divisions, the CEA will spearhead the development and delivery of multigenerational strategic technology plans in response to the businesses and product multigenerational plans. Matrix management of Enterprise Architects and Product Architect groups spanning the Division.
§ Oversee the conceptualization and implementation of product architecture strategy for TAA software products in the Tax, Accounting & Audit, Firm Management and GRC markets.
§ Responsibilities for Product architecture will span common tools & services, integration & platforms, data & business intelligence, and infrastructure.
§ Drive key initiatives within Enterprise Architecture focusing on top line growth (increased positive customer experience and accelerated product delivery & revenue recognition) along with improved cost efficiencies (increase leverage & reuse and technology stack standardization).
§ Drive the evaluation, conceptualization, design, and integration of major new capabilities into TAA-US software product lines, ensuring that product design and technology choices anticipate future needs, positioning us well for the long term, while efficiently satisfying short term market requirements.
§ Assist executive management charting future product and technology strategy, considering both technical and business trends / factors.
§ Work with business and technology stakeholders to set and align technology vision, direction and strategic objectives ensuring that product strategies are designed, built and deployed using technology best practices providing the best possible customer experience.
§ Collaborate with Wolters Kluwer technology and architecture organizations to integrate products and solutions.
§ Evangelize and market the benefits of key architectural initiatives to senior leaders throughout the organization, defining and driving common architectural standards across the organization.
§ Deliver Multi-Generational Technology Plans (MGTP) in response to Multi-Generational Product Plans (MGPP) and work closely with the EPMO to execute said plans.
§ Share knowledge, mentor, and educate the organization's management, staff, partners, customers, and stakeholders with regard to the company's technological vision, opportunities, and challenges.
§ Work with product management executives to actively foster a high energy, highly productive products organization and culture.
§ Work effectively at multiple levels: in the trenches with individual engineers; white boarding with senior designers and managers; at the board room table with senior corporate executives.
§ Drive programs that support increasing the organization's capacity for innovation. Enable ideation and solutions to monetize emerging social trends in the market.
§ Formulate competitively differentiating product technology breakthroughs.
§ Enhance and develop product by supporting due diligence and planning for merger & acquisition integration, industry trends, and emerging technologies.
§ Create long term strategy prioritization plan for shared architecture development across the organization that supports integrated products.
§ Improve the overall architecture competency and capability, business unit wide, and promote technology best practices.
§ Establish governance structures that will serve to support enterprise architecture processes, define and drive common architectural standards, tools and frameworks across organization.
§ Lead and chair an Architectural Review Board.
§ Institute policy, program and standards that ensure product development is done within the context of industry best practice.
§ Enact processes for constantly improving the performance, scalability, extensibility, interoperability, reliability, availability and usability of TAA software products.
§ Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and software development best practices.
§ Work with business unit leaders to recruit technology talent and educate on architectural strategy, guidelines, processes and best practices.
REQUIREMENTS
§ Bachelor Computer Science or equivalent degree in technology-related studies; MBA or MS in technology related field preferred.
§ Previous experience as a CTO, VP Technology, Chief Architect or similar disciplines such as Systems Architecture, Engineering, Research & Development, Internet Technology, Global Architecture & Strategy, Chief Internet Technology or Fellow of medium to large company.
§ Minimum 10 years of leadership experience architecting complex enterprise-class software products, web based platforms, and large-scale distributed systems (hardware, software, and network systems).
§ Proven ability to drive enterprise architecture best practices broadly and deeply throughout a product development (engineering) organization, while at the same time being able to articulate and convincingly influence key decision-makers on technology trends and tradecraft.
§ Strong business acumen, with experience in understanding and shaping technology investments in support of company strategy. Exposure to business theory, business process development, governance processes, management and budgeting.
§ Practical experience designing and building enterprise or distributed software systems for the Tax & Accounting industry preferred.
§ Must demonstrate experience in the techniques used to build highly scalable, economically feasible and high-performing systems.
§ Experience architecting real-time, high-volume, high-performance, and multi-threaded systems.
§ Must demonstrate detailed understanding of architecture principles and methods, technology standards and trends.
§ Extensive knowledge of Microsoft technologies and trends (.NET 3.5, C#, Smart Client, Silverlight, Azure, Dynamics, XRM) and additional enterprise technologies, including J2EE, Oracle applications & platforms, SAP, AS400, and Business Intelligence.
§ Experience with metadata driven development techniques and code generation required.
§ Good working knowledge of current and emerging Microsoft and Open (XML, XBRL, SOA, Open Source) standards.
§ Experience architecting product software under an Agile development methodology and SaaS & On-premise delivery models.
§ Working knowledge and experience developing enterprise SaaS solutions using best of breed technologies, a core framework, and Agile development methodologies
§ Innovative thinker with excellent analysis and strategic technology planning skills.
§ Some periods of travel may be required up to 30%-40%. Typical destinations would be other TAA offices in Torrance, Wichita, Seattle and Chicago.
