  Position Description

PRN/Registry position in our Lombard Surgery Center requiring EXPERIENCE in OPHTHALMOLOGY procedures. Must have prior(recent) expereince in scrubbing Ophthalmology procedures. M-F days as needed.
III. MAJOR DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Under general supervision, performs nursing work related to the care and treatment of the patients in the operating room.
B. Assures availability of instrumentation and supplies required for the surgical procedure prior to the case.
C. Participates in operating room set up, turnover, cleaning, and restocking.
D. Maintains sterile technique in opening of surgical supplies and instrumentation.
E. Cleans, prepares, and sterilizes medical supplies and equipment.
F. Provides for efficient aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures in a safe, efficient manner.
G. Observes, recognizes, and anticipates common surgical complications, and assists with emergency care as needed. Reports unusual conditions to the RN.
H. Demonstrates a general knowledge of equipment and supplies.
I. Helps to prepare and preserve specimens.
J. Performs sponge and neddle count with circulating nurse.
K. Performs duties relating to processing, sterilization, and maintenance of the surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
L. Understands and practices principles of sterilization, universal precautions, and hazardous materials management to process instruments, equipment, and supplies through the stages of decontamination.
M. Demonstrates knowledge of standard instrumentation and equipment, their functions and uses.
N. Maintains documentation of biological indicators for sterile processing equipment.
O. Maintains appropriate instrument sets and supplies relating to their sterility, storage, and inventory levels.
P. Demonstrates ability to work independently under established policies, procedures, and standards.
Q. Protects the privacy, confidentiality, and security of personal health information.
R. Demonstrates ability to setup surgical trays and wrap appropriately for sterilization.
S. Assures availability of instrumentation and supplies required for the surgical procedure prior to the case.
T. Observes, recognizes, and anticipates common surgical complications, and assists with emergency care as needed. Reports unusual conditions to the RN
U. Other duties:
1. Stocks supplies in sterile room and blanket warmer.
2. Assists with turnovers.
3. Assists with sterile cleaning of instrumentation.
4. Performs all department cleaning duties at the end of the day.
