PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under the general direction of the Rehabilitation Managers, performs evaluations and provides treatment for inpatients and outpatients within the scope and professional ethics of the physical therapy profession. Assists manager in department planning and organization.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
* Administers physical therapy evaluations appropriate to patient problem prior to initial treatment.
* Formulates patient treatment plan and/or treatment recommendations, setting goals for attainment.
* Performs and/or supervises physical therapy treatment procedures consistent with patient's age and developmental level.
* Measures and adjusts ambulatory aids and recommends equipment for home use. Assists patient/family in acquisition process of necessary equipment.
* Documents patient evaluation and treatment progress according to department policy.
* Uses tact, sensitivity, and communicates effectively with patients, visitors, co-workers, physicians and other hospital personnel.
* Demonstrates professional qualities; upholds the standards and code of ethics of APTA and the Medical Center.
* Participates in patient scheduling, daily statistics and patient charges, equipment upkeep, orderliness of treatment and staff areas, inservices, quality assurance programs, peer review, program development, and competency testing/reviews.
* Assists in training and supervision of physical therapy staff, students and volunteers.
* Manages the department effectively in the absence of the manager and senior staff.
* Self evaluates performance and sets professional goals.

* Demonstrates knowledge of and follows Departmental and Medical Center guidelines related to guest services activities in the performance of the duties and responsibilities of the position.
* Therapeutically interacts with each person/age group knowledgeable of their various developmental needs.
* Is knowledgeable of and conforms to the Administrative Policy on "Abuse and Interpersonal Violence: Guidelines for Treatment in Emergency and Hospital Setting."
* Follows a regimen for professional growth. eg., by attending various meetings, conferences, courses.
* As needed recommends quality and/or process improvement initiatives in order to more effectively and efficiently perform the Job Functions of this job.
* Performs all other Job Functions related to this Job.
MINIMAL JOB REQUIREMENTS: (necessary to adequately perform the Job Functions)
* Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree with a certificate or degree in physical therapy, or, masters degree in physical therapy from an APTA approved program.
* Must be licensed in Illinois or eligible for licensure in accordance with Illinois State Law.
