The Senior Counsel's objective is to ensure that the company's best interests are being met by providing practical, timely, high quality legal advice and assistance to various business units with respect to understanding and complying with laws, rules and regulations applicable to the company's businesses. The Senior Counsel conducts or manages the conduct of legal research and the preparation of analyses concerning a broad range of federal, state and foreign legislation in order to support the Legal Department's objectives. The Senior Counsel may supervise internal and external legal counsel, paralegals and/or consultants.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provide legal advice to Takeda affiliates in the U.S. and Canada regarding privacy compliance issues relating to business operations in the U.S., Canada and foreign jurisdictions.
- Support the Assistant General Counsel & Chief Privacy Officer as a subject matter expert for privacy compliance issues.
- Manage and perform projects that involve complex legal issues requiring a high degree of original and constructive legal effort and business acumen.
- Manage a privacy compliance program to promote and ensure compliance with state, federal and foreign privacy laws that impact Takeda business operations
- Participate in the maintenance of company's information protection program applicable to personal information and company confidential information.
- Develop, implement, disseminate and update, as necessary, policies and training programs to address privacy compliance matters.
- Monitor and interpret privacy legislation applicable to the company's business operations.
- Manage the incident response and breach notification process relating to state and federal laws requiring notification of security breaches involving personal information.
- Investigate and respond to all privacy complaints and inquiries.
- Represent Takeda as a member of the International Pharmaceutical Privacy Consortium.
- Represent the Legal Department on the Information Protection Steering Committee, a cross-functional committee dedicated to protecting company confidential information including personal information.
- Regularly report to senior management on the status of the company's privacy compliance program and other privacy compliance matters.
- Conduct periodic assessments to determine adherence to privacy program policies, procedures and training.
- Support the Associate General Counsel, Litigation & Compliance, on special assignments or projects related to health care compliance issues and laws, including laws governing the interactions between the company and health care providers.
- Manage, if assigned by the Practice Category leader, the performance and development of attorneys, paralegals and support staff.
- Establish rapport and a positive working relationship with business unit management and personnel at all levels to encourage and continue the proactive use of in-house legal counsel.
- Communicate with business colleagues at all levels in the organization regarding significant decisions, legislation and regulatory rulings that may affect the company's business or policy.
- Perform other special assignments or projects, without significant supervision, as assigned by senior attorneys.
