An excellent career opportunity is currently available for a Manager, Online Gas Chromatography Group located at UOP's Research facility in Des Plaines, IL. This position will lead the Online Gas Chromatography Group within UOP's 575+ member R&D organization.
Position Responsibilities:
* Will provide leadership and direction for the Online Gas Chromatography Group.
* Will be accountable for reviewing the group's work from a technical perspective, and providing the technical leadership on projects.
* Apply sufficient knowledge of the group's activity to be able to make sound technical decisions when necessary.
* Challenge group members to develop new approaches for online needs.
* Will work within all pilot plant environments where online instrumentation is employed, and personally visit online installations regularly.
* Interact with plant and R&D personnel at all levels and, in particular, with everyone involved with the pilot plants that use online analysis (e.g., operators, technicians, plant supervisors, engineers, and researchers).
* Will be accountable for setting the annual goals and business objectives for the group as a whole, and directly, or indirectly, for individual group members.
* Develop the strategic plan for the group.
* Look for new business opportunities.
* Set the group's budget, including capital, and ensure that the accountabilities of the group align with its fiscal and personnel resources.
* Be accountable for insuring that performance appraisals are completed on time.
* Will have ultimate accountability for ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget, and that support work is carried out properly and when needed.
* Will mentor the members of the group, and ensure that they have a clear understanding of their roles and feel free to communicate any questions or concerns directly to the manager.
* Accountable for ensuring compliance with all Honeywell safety requirements.
Qualifications
Basic Candidate Requirements:
* Minimum B.S degree in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or related physical science with a strong mathematical background is required.
* 15 plus years professional (10-20 years with Ph.D.) work experience (at least 10 in online analysis with a minimum of 5 in petrochemical analyses).
* 10 plus years research experience with instrumental analytical chemistry procedures, including quantitative analysis.
* 10 plus years online GC (with other online technologies desirable), as well as demonstrated hands-on experience with the use, repair and calibration of online GC instrumentation and electronics is required.
* Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams to develop advanced data analysis processes.
* US work authorization.
Additional Candidate Qualifications:
* Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or related physical science with a strong mathematical background is considered ideal.
* Recognized industry leader in one or more areas of online process analysis is desired.
* Computer literacy including the ability to quickly learn to use a variety of software, write simple macros, set up computer hardware and troubleshoot programs or hardware desirable.
* Experience with the use of multivariate data analysis desirable
* Demonstrated leadership ability.
* Excellent organizational skills, and technical expertise.
* Effective oral and written communication skills.
