Job Description:

Provides services relating to financial analysis, budget management, and accounting.  Safeguards the assets of HIMSS by providing and/or adhering to immediate and long-term internal controls.  Works to provide accurate and timely financial reporting to the Board and executive management team.   Under the direction of the Director Accounting & Finance, assists in the development of HIMSS’ annual operating, capital, and product development budgets.  Manages the annual budget and forecasting process.  Prepares forecasts and analyzes trends in sales, finance, general business conditions and other related areas.  Gathers input from various sources to predict probable year-end outcome.  Provides interim financial statements. Monitors capital spending and reports to Director Accounting & Finance on the status of the capital budget.  Maintains capital budget tracking sheet that compares actual spending to budget.  Performs the analysis of variances between the GL and operating budgets.  Investigates variances and provides variance explanation on the financial report.  Manages the monthly close process and the preparation of timely and accurate financial reports. Produces HIMSS’ and Analytics monthly and quarterly financial statements, including income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements and various other accounting statements and reports.  Analyzes financial reports and records, making recommendations relative to the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.  Prepares financial and business related analyses and research in such areas as financial and expense performance, rate of return, and depreciation.  Participates in the year-end closing.  Prepares audit work papers and reconciliations quarterly and annually in good form.  Assists in the review of annual financial statements.  Reviews the fixed asset report prepared by the Accountant.  Analyzes HIMSS’ cash position on a daily basis.  Based on analysis, provides CFO with recommendations for investment of surplus cash and transfers between accounts.  Produces weekly cash position report.  Prepares Finance and Administration budget.  Shares responsibility for payroll accounting: Serves as backup person; Makes payroll journal entries; Performs 401(k) reconciliations.  Prepares tax filings for all State and Federal taxes, including government reporting related to payroll, sales tax and Illinois Department of Financial Institutions.  Reviews and ensures timely tax filings and annual 1099 and 1096 filings, including auditing A/P Coordinator’s classifications.  Gathers information and prepares schedules for income tax returns related to lobbying expenses, advertising revenues, and expenses for the determination of UBI tax.  Directly supervises the Accounts Receivable Coordinator.  Provides support and guidance, and ensures work products are timely and of high quality.  Provides periodic performance feedback and appraisals.  Provides guidance and expertise in accounting matters to the Accountant as needed.  Shares responsibility for timely and accurate monthly reconciliation of bank account statements (rotates from month to month between this position, Sr. Accountant, and  Accountant).  Serves as contact for HIMSS’ middle- and upper-level managers on accounting issues; and works with staff from other departments, assisting where necessary with accounting issues and resolving problems.  Utilizing technology-based systems and software, compiles and prepares reports, graphs and charts of data developed, as required.  Manages special projects and other duties as assigned.  Manages department activities in absence of Director Accounting & Finance.


Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, and CPA.  A minimum of five years experience in accounting, with at least three years of experience in treasury analysis or financial analysis.  Exceptional accounting and analytical skills.  Strong Microsoft Office skills. Good verbal and written communication skills, and strong human relations skills.  Experience with computerized accounting software.  Desire experience with multi-dimensional financial reporting software.  (E.g., Crystal Enterprise.)
