Job Description:

The Director of Corporate Strategy is a finance role reporting to the Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis and has responsibility for leading the strategic planning process for the company.  This position will work in partnership with all company business units to support development of the corporate strategic plan to (i) improve performance of existing businesses and (ii) develop the growth strategy for the company. This position will manage 2-3 internal resources and have the following responsibilities:
 
Support development of the corporate strategic plan:



  • Support the FP&A VP in developing and communicating the corporate strategy and setting global priorities

  • Drive content and preparation of CEO and CFO BOD and other related materials

  • Regularly publish a 5-year long range financial plan to support strategic planning and valuation (3 financial statement model)

  • Serve as a key finance resource for the leadership team to make decisions on the growth options available to the company consistent with corporate strategy

  • Develop a business case process for executive management to evaluate alternative strategic initiatives and potential business development and partnership opportunities (i.e. technology, marketing, etc, includes detailed financial models and valuation scenarios)

  • Perform and oversee industry and competitive analyses to highlight underlying trends and competitive dynamics

  • Perform historical, short-term and long-term analysis of key strategic initiatives, business unit and company performance

  • Work with treasury to develop capital allocation and investment hurdles

  • Team with peers across segments to ensure strategic alignment and to highlight cross segment opportunities


Support development of segment strategic plans:



  • Provide guidance and expectations for segment strategic planning process

  • Participate in development of the segment strategic plans and verify consistency with corporate strategy and objectives

  • Serve as a catalyst to identify and develop new business opportunities

  • Determine industry growth rates and growth potential for segments

  • Identify gaps between business unit plans and segment potential

  • Evaluate strategic plans for non-performing BUs

  • Perform ad hoc analysis and projects at segment request


Measure and evaluate segment performance with the director of planning and analysis:



  • Work with segments/finance to develop financial and non-financial metrics that link segment performance with strategic direction and initiatives

  • Set segment targets -  both financial and non-financial with multi year outlook





Qualifications:



  • Minimum of 12 years of business experience with a background in general management and strategic planning (preferably a portion of this experience in an industry aligned with the hospitality business)

  • Strong demonstrated experience producing and presenting analysis, valuation, and recommendation materials to senior level management

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, ability to think strategically and creatively, business savvy, exercises judgment

  • Extensive experience with financial modeling and valuation techniques including building complex financial models and interpreting results

  • Excellent communication skills; proven experience in developing relationships, building presence and commanding respect with C-Level Executives

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills - equally effective in formal and informal settings with senior managers at conveying key information and defending positions

  • Excellent analytical skills with an ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative information effectively

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to drive projects to completion in a complex, deadline driven environment

  • MBA preferred
