Regional Accountant
General Summary: This position reports to the Regional Senior Accountant and works on a variety of general accounting tasks, including journal entries, account reconciliations, reporting, and control aspects of the functional areas assigned. The position requires team work, initiative and the willingness to continually work to improve processes and controls, with the possibility of job rotation to other functional areas within the team.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Records entries to G/L through journal entries, in accordance with accrual basis accounting (includes standard entries, adjusting entries, accrual entries, etc.);
- Maintain schedules for expense and income recognition.
- Review G/L detail reports to ensure entries are timely and the account balances are correct and properly supported with designated backup; ensure that all entries to your functional area accounts are accurate and properly classified;
- Communicate and coordinate with Regional Financial Analysis Team Members regarding unusual entries, research and change initiatives, and proactively provide updates as required in the primary functional area that impact earnings, forecasts, and annual budgets;
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for all accounts within specified functional areas;
- Serve as liaison to regional operational TMs regarding accounting procedures and entries.
- Participate in annual plan process: research and develop plan income and expenses within your assigned functional area and input as required;
- Develop expertise in all aspects of your functional areas. (Accounting methodology, policies and procedures, account reconciliation, accurate, informative and well organized work papers);
- Acts as liaison to Central Accounting for functional area including special projects, new system implementation, new or improved procedure development, upgrades, general questions and studies, and other work as required in the functional area required;
- Perform special tasks and procedures related to your functional responsibilities, or other areas as needed.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
- 1 to 3 years of Accounting experience;
- Degree in Accounting or Finance and/or a CPA or similar certification a plus;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required;
- Well-organized, able to prioritize, multitask and adhere to deadlines;
- Ability to work cooperatively with other team members and provide direction to others to ensure completion of projects and assigned tasks is required;
- Ability to adapt to ever-changing environment;
- Working knowledge of accounting principles, policies and practices;
- Strong desire and willingness to learn various accounting functions required;
- Strong computer and Excel skills required; working knowledge of PeopleSoft a plus;
- Retail background, food industry experience a plus; knowledge of Whole Foods Market principles and core values a plus.
